What Is Juneteenth?
Juneteenth, observed annually on June 19th, commemorates the day in 1865 when Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced the emancipation of enslaved African Americans—more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. It stands as a powerful reminder of the struggles, triumphs, and enduring spirit of Black Americans throughout history.
