East Pensacola Heights is a quaint, smaller historic neighborhood nestled between Pensacola Bay and Bayou Texar. In 2015, evidence of Tristan de Luna’s settlement, which lasted from 1559 to 1561 — the earliest multi-year European colonial settlement ever archaeologically identified in the United States was discovered in East Pensacola Heights (around the corner from my own home). De Luna’s Pensacola settlement predates the Spanish settlement in St. Augustine, Fla. by six years, and the English settlement in Jamestown, Va. by 48 years. So, East Pensacola Heights is where America began. Cool history!

The neighborhood is very walkable, with homes ranging from 1920’s Craftsman cottages to new construction with southern architecture. Sunset views of the bay and bayou are breath taking. You may see osprey soaring, mullet jumping and dolphin feeding. Various sea birds make it a birder’s paradise.

Locals gather at Jerry's Drive-In, the Marina Oyster Bar, The Magnolia, Scenic 90 Cafe and My Favorite Things. Lifestyle sports options are showcased by Weatherford's Climbing Wall, Breathe Yoga and Running Wild store and events. Except for heading to Pensacola Beach, you don’t need to leave the community.
